Kodu

Is a free visual programming language made specifically for creating games. It only runs on Windows PC machines and outputs Games suitable for PC and Xbox.

Although proprietary it has some excellent Lesson Plan resource material on the process of writing games in the classroom - a more general and comprehensive overview which is software neutral in some cases and in others the ideas can be ported over and used in other Games Writing packages. It is a pity this program isn't available for other Operating Systems as it is a marvellous entry point into programming and gaming in general.
