Quest

Quest is a tool for creating text adventure games. It requires no
programming experience - games are created entirely using a visual editor -
but it does provide an introduction to various programming concepts, such
as variables, functions, loops, expressions, objects, etc. It's quite a
gentle introduction - you can start off making a game with no knowledge at
all, and build up from there. The underlying language is pretty powerful so
I can see it being suitable for quite a large range of ages and abilities.

It is already being used in a few schools for a variety of age groups and
subjects - not just ICT, but also in English where text adventures can be a
part of creative writing. It could also be used for teaching MFL, as it
currently has language libraries for English, French, German, Spanish and
Dutch.
